CNews Receives Fine Over Discriminatory Remarks Against Algerians, Muslims

(MENAFN) French news channel CNews was fined €100,000 ($119,000) on Wednesday for airing content deemed discriminatory toward Algerians and Muslims.

France’s audiovisual regulator, Arcom, imposed the fines over two segments broadcast in 2025, stating that the content could incite discrimination, according to reports.

Arcom concluded that the segments from the channel’s L’heure des pros program “encourage discriminatory behavior, on the one hand by equating the presence of Algerian nationals in France […] with a major public safety risk" and on the other hand by linking “all Palestinians with the perpetrators” of the October 7 attack.

The regulator also noted that it had previously issued formal warnings to CNews over earlier broadcasts and strongly urged the channel to ensure that its content “does not encourage discriminatory behavior.”
